Twinings Royal Wedding Blend Tea

DSC_1005

Royal wedding anniversary is coming up this month and Twinings has come up with this new Earl Grey tea called Twinings Royal Wedding Blend Tea. So, when I was being asked to sample it, I didn't say no! I was reading about it and apparently the master blenders of the Twining Tea made this with rose petal. I though may be it is best if I make some traditional combination of sandwiches to go with the cuppa!

I made three different types od sandwiches. The first one was smoked salmon and cream cheese and chive sandwich, second one a simple ham sandwich and the third one was just a cucumber sandwich

I must say the box is very very cute, I simply loved it. Each tea bag is individually packed in black envelopes. The box contains 20 such envelopes. Don’t keep the tea bag in the tea water for more than a minute, and it is best without milk. I also didn't add any sugar.  I liked it. It’s nice and the flavour is very different from simple Earl Grey. You can really feel the difference. Certainly this is not an everyday tea for me, but I will probably have it once in a while when I would really seek for a change of taste and flavour in tea.

Ham & Cheese Sandwich

There are some days of the week when you are just on your toes all day. I was having one such day. By the the time I was out of my office, I was very tired (almost zombied), hungry and no energy left even to drive back home, forget about cooking a meal after that.

Stuck in a traffic on the way back home I was thinking, back in India if would have had such a day, then when I came home, my mom would have got me a nice warm cup of tea followed by a nice dinner and a good night's sleep!

What a comforting daydream......but got back to reality pretty soon as the guy behind me honked quite hard asking me to move forward (The traffic lights were green!!).

Poor me!!

I started driving again and said to myself well mom is not here...my husband is away for the whole week!!...I am alone at home..its cold and wet outside and I still need to cook something (how depressing can it get!!).

I tried to console myself, you are alone, tired, hungry and depressed, you have every reason to pamper yourself. So what do you do when you are depresed... you eat chocolate! Ah! As if I got back some strength..ok! Its working..feeling better. So I got my dessert sorted! I have some homemade choco-nut fudge in the fridge goes very well with a cup of black coffee.

Whats left is main course. I started thinking what's left in my fridge..I have some cheese, some leftover meat, some tortilla (and some other leftover ofcourse!!). That's it! Sorted!

Its going to be a warm ham and cheese sandwich. Takes 5 minutes to be ready and it also means I don't even need to waste time in the supermarket, look for parking, stand in the queue..etc etc. Not now at least!!

The thought of soft melted cheese coming out of crispy tortilla made me drive home faster than I thought!! Lucky that the traffic later wasn't so bad.

Ingredients:

1 Tortilla
2- 3 Slices of ham (or any cooked meat)
3-4 Tbsp grated hard cheese
1 Green chilli chopped (optional)
1 Spring onion (chopped)
Butter/oil for frying

Method:

Heat the pan, brush the tortilla with some oil on one side only, place it on the heated pan. Lay the ham slices on one half side of the tortilla. Spread the grated cheese on top of it, then the chopped green chillies and spring onions.

Fold the other side on top of the cheese, press and turn it on other side, cook for another minute. Serve hot and Enjoy.

Mexican wrap with Ham & Egg

When I feel really lazy, hungry and don’t feel like cooking at all I make these wraps. This recipe is delicious and ready in 5 minutes, perfect for lunch (or even brunch if you are like me!!). I have used ham in this recipe but you can use any cooked meat, whatever you have in your fridge like left over cooked meat. In this recipe I have used 1 tortilla as it was quite filling for me but you can change the quantity as you prefer. So here goes the recipe...

Ingredients:

1 Tortilla wrap
2 Eggs
2-3 Slices of ham (chopped)
1 Onion (chopped)
1 Green chilly (chopped)
Few fresh coriander leaves (chopped) (optional)
Grated cheese
Butter
Oil

********I didnt add any salt as the meat had enough salt in it.*******

Method:

Spread little butter on both sides of the tortilla and place it on a heated frying pan. Heat it for a minute and then turn. This will give the tortilla a crispy outside. Don’t keep for long time as it might get hard. Remove it from the pan and keep it aside.

Add oil/butter to the pan and beat the eggs with chopped onion green chilly and fresh coriander. Now add the ham in the mixture. When the oil is heated add this mixture to the pan and cook the omelette as you would like. Spread the grated cheese on top of the tortilla and place the omelette on top of it. Now wrap the whole thing and cut into halves and enjoy.
